2025 Hummer Trade School Scholarships
The Hummer Trade School Scholarships are named to recognize and celebrate the Hummer Family of Loudoun County for their long-standing generational achievements in trade and farming. The Hummer Family helped establish the Sterling Ruritan in 1952 and were founding members.
Skilled trades are the backbone of our society and are lucrative, stable career opportunities. While often overlooked, The Sterling Ruritan Club recognizes that higher education in a trade can be critical for setting a firm foundation for a lifetime career. As such, this $1000 scholarship recognizes those hard working members of our community entering trades and is designed to assist them in reaching their full potential.
Those who seek a career in trades such as (but not limited to) fabrication, construction, farming, plumbing, electrical, masonry, auto repair, cosmetology, culinary arts and other trade related careers are encouraged to apply.
Any Dominion High School, Potomac Falls High School or Park View High School Senior who is interested in attending a trade school may apply for this scholarship.
To be eligible for this scholarship, the student is required to complete this application by Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
The Sterling Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee will evaluate the applications and select the winners. A representative of the Sterling Ruritan Club will notify winners.
Ruritan National has nearly 30,000 members throughout the United States, that work to improve more than 1,100 local communities. Since the organization’s beginning in 1928, Ruritan Clubs have served America with Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service. Ruritan is a civic service organization made up of local clubs in urban areas, small towns and rural communities.
Ruritan's purpose is to create a better understanding among people and through volunteer community service, make America's communities better places in which to live and work. The slogan of Ruritan is "Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service." Club membership represents a cross-section of the community in which the club serves, and is not restrictive with regard to occupation, social position, or any other specific criteria.
Unlike most civic service organizations, Ruritan rarely has national programs. Rather, each club surveys its own community as to the needs of that community and then works to meet some of those needs. Nearly all clubs work locally with FFA, 4-H and other organizations serving youth. Nearly one in every three Ruritan clubs sponsors a Scouts BSA or Girl Scout unit.
We are proud to sponsor Scouts BSA Troop 966!

The form typically includes personal information such as name, contact details, occupation, and any previous volunteer or community service experience. While each club may vary slightly in its membership requirements, the basic application pillars remain: integrity, character, and dedication to the welfare of the community. Because of the nature of its involvement with the community and youth organizations, at the discretion of the local club, individuals with criminal convictions and/or charges may not be eligible for membership.RURITAN NATIONAL is committed to an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect.
